Overview

Choosing which time of year to see the Great Wildebeest Migration is made easy with this safari. Moving between Tanzania’s Serengeti and Kenya’s Masai Mara, this 10-day itinerary ensures that you will be in front-row seats for nature’s biggest show and some of its most dramatic chapters, depending on which time of year you choose to visit, such as the birthing season, the great trek, and the treacherous river crossings, complete with giant crocodiles. This is a Migration itinerary backed up by some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa. When you are not watching the Migration, you will be on the lookout for the Big 5 in the Ngorongoro Crater – lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and elephant – and enjoying diverse wildlife sightings throughout the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. Predators – like all the big cats, wild dogs, cheetahs and hyenas – are well represented and the general game viewing and bird watching is excellent. It is a fly-in safari, saving you several long journeys by road. You are met and assisted each step of the way as you fly between destinations. Small and intimate camps – ideal for romantic travel, and that will appeal to honeymooners and couples - provide the accommodation and you enjoy morning and afternoon game drives with their expert guides. You will be ‘under canvas’ for this safari in large, well-furnished tents with their own en suite bathrooms. Simple bucket showers and campfires gives these places give an authentic wilderness feel but you have all the comforts of home in your tent including electric lighting as well as stunning views from your outdoor seating area.

The tour begins with your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha where you are met and transferred to Katambuga House for one night. Surrounded by coffee estates, you are certainly assured of a fresh cup after your journey. There is plenty to do at the lodge: use the swimming pool, spa and massage service before heading to the cosy lounge with bar and fireplace where you can order a drink and find a seat with a view of Mount Meru - the continent’s second-highest mountain - and toast your arrival in Africa.
Accommodation: Katambuga House
Meals: Lunch, Dinner and Breakfast.

After breakfast at the lodge, you are transferred the short distance to Arusha Airport for a flight to the Manyara airstrip and a road transfer to Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp for two nights. Tucked away in a wooded valley close to the Crater rim, this tented camp lies close to the main entrance to the Crater floor, allowing you to be among the first vehicles to enter the next day. The world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, the Ngorongoro Crater protects one of Africa’s richest concentrations of large animals within its steep walls and is ranked among the best places to see the all of the Big 5 – lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino – in one setting.
Accommodation: Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp.
Meals Planed: B.L & D

A flight from Manyara takes you to the Serengeti and Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp for three nights. Moving between three different locations within the Serengeti, this intimate and stylish tented camp can assure its guests of excellent game viewing regardless of the time of year and – depending on the time of your visit – some of the best moments of the Wildebeest Migration. You enjoy morning and afternoon game drives with expert guides into the heart of the action, returning to a simple but comfortable camp, serving home-cooked meals by candlelight or under the stars.
Accommodation: Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp
Meals Planed: Full Board Basis

You cross the border into Kenya today, flying from the Serengeti to Migori and then another flight to Kichwa Tembo, finally checking in at Sanctuary Olonana for three nights. If you have not seen much of the Wildebeest Migration up to now, it will be because the herds are here. Set on a private stretch of the Mara River, Olonana has prime position for the most dramatic chapter of the Migration – the river crossings – when the migrating herds brave the snapping jaws of enormous Nile crocodiles as they make their way from one side to the other. The camp is small and offers attentive, personalised service; your elegant, glass-sided suite comes with a terrace that looks out over the river and its resident hippos as the sounds of the Masai Mara float through the air.
