HIV/AIDS has devastated life in Tanzania, resulting in many children becoming orphaned and many women widowed. Lack of proper awareness of the pandemic and the lifestyle of Tanzanians are the two main reasons for this devastation. There are now many local initiatives underway to treat the victims and spread the awareness against the prevention of the disease. Many efforts have become successful and saved thousands of lives.

Witness Africa safaris have teamed up with these initiatives and we are now offering you an opportunity to volunteer in our HIV/AIDS project in Tanzania. Through your work and dedication, these local initiatives will gain more momentum and succeed in saving thousands of lives.

No specific qualification required to volunteer in HIV/AIDS project. Volunteers should compassion towards people contracted with HIV/AIDS virus and shouldn't hesitate to take care of them. You should also have drive, enthusiasm and passion to work in conditions very alien to you.

  • Volunteer's Responsibilities

    Volunteers will work with kids and adults in spreading awareness and train and educate the people. You will also counsel in the hospitals and grassroots communities severely affected by the disease. Outreach program is another feature of the project and under it you will be involved in hospice care. As part of this project, you may have to be involved in organizing seminars. Your work can include:

  • 1.Supporting counseling groups and coming out with strategies
  • 2.Facilitating discussions and meetings on behavior change
  • 3.Giving first aid treatments
  • 4.Helping the sick and advising them with the help of the local medical professionals
  • 5.Fundraising

  • The HIV/AIDS project in Tanzania is located in the northern towns of Arusha, Moshi and Boma. Arush is often referred to as a gateway to the northern safari circuit. Despite being located very close to the equator, the town lies at an altitude of 14 hundred meters and enjoys cooler temperature year round. The town has superb views of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. Coffee plantations and maize and wheat fields dominate the surrounding countryside. Arusha National Park, which is full of wildlife, is the nearest safari option.

VOLUNTEER AT ORPHANAGE IN ARUSHA TANZANIA
. Help children orphaned by grinding poverty, diseases, abuse and other negative situations and give them a chance to succeed
Tanzania remains one of the poorest countries in Africa. The government has limited resources and cannot offer much help to the orphaned children. These young kids mostly end up living on the street and many become involve in petty crime or are exploited as they seek work to survive. There are many orphanages running through private efforts or some through government programs that are taking good care of the children. These orphanages house, feed, send the children to school and clothe them. Despite this good work, these orphanages are always struggling for funds and are understaffed. Witness Africa safaris is working with these local orphanages to offer volunteers a wonderful chance to help the children.

You will provide love, care, impart skills and turn the children into confident individuals capable of believing in themselves. Moshi is a smaller town and is located about 45 miles from Arusha. It also enjoys a cooler weather but is much wetter. There are many things to see and do in Moshi, including visiting lively markets, religious institutions, many different safari options, climbing Kilimanjaro and cultural trips to Maasai villages.
Skill/Qualification
You must have a passion to serve orphaned children and you must also be open-minded, resourceful and patience. You must also be willing to give love and care and make their future brighter. No other qualifications are required. Volunteer's Responsibilities Share your love, skills and take care of the orphaned children. This will give them hope for a better future. The major responsibilities of a volunteer involves teaching the children English, math, or other subjects you think you can, assist them with their homework, teach personal hygiene, tidy their beds, change their clothes, wash them, feed them and even drop them to school. You may also have to pitch in with kitchen work, clean the orphanage and help in administrative duties. Many volunteers have also been involved with fundraising activities designed to help ease the financial burden facing the orphanage.

10% Deposit payable upfront. Remaining balance payable 30 days prior to trip departure. Free cancellation up to 30 days prior departure. No refund applicable within 30 days of departure..

Payment Procedure

A deposit of 10% is required when booking this tour. The remaining balance will be charged 30 days prior departure. For any bookings within 30days of departure, the full tour amount will be charged upon booking.

Volunteer requirements

Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or friend who is over 18 to participate in this program.

Volunteers aged 16-18 are required to provide with parental consent in order to participate on the program independently, and may be asked to provide additional documentation to the local team

All volunteers are required to provide a criminal background check prior to departure, or if aged under 18 need to provide two character reference letters instead.

All volunteers are required to have adequate volunteer travel insurance.

All volunteers must speak fluent English.
